Maximize Social Impact with Explorer Series: Innovative Virtual Events for Social Good

At Explorer Series, our mission is not just to create fun, engaging virtual events but to maximize our social impact. We believe in harnessing the power of virtual experiences to foster community, support nonprofits, and drive positive change globally. In a world where every action counts, we are dedicated to making a meaningful difference.

How to use Explorer Series' virtual events to maximize social impact, showcasing current efforts and inviting partnerships for greater community and charitable support.
The Importance of Social Impact

Social impact refers to the significant, positive changes that address pressing social challenges. It encompasses improvements in community well-being, environmental sustainability, and economic development. According to 80,000 Hours, making a difference can lead to a more equitable, healthier, and sustainable world. At Explorer Series, we are committed to maximizing this impact through innovative and inclusive virtual events.

Current Efforts and Achievements

The Continental / Great Divide Challenge

One of our standout events is the Continental / Great Divide Challenge, a virtual distance challenge designed to support nonprofit fundraising. Participants can walk, run, or cycle (or use a combination of these) either solo or by creating a team with friends or coworkers, pooling all their miles together to reach various milestones along the 4300 km route from Banff, Alberta, to the Mexico border.

In this event, 100% of the registration fees go to support these incredible charities:

  1. Opportunity International – Empowering people to work their way out of poverty.
  2. LCC International University – Providing Christian liberal arts education in Lithuania.
  3. iDE Canada – Creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households.
  4. Hope For Korah – Alleviating poverty and restoring dignity in Korah, Ethiopia.
  5. Himalayan Life – Serving children at risk in the Himalayas.

Participants receive digital postcards along the route, including mileage badges, interesting facts about the region they’re traveling through, and videos from their virtual guides on the route. This challenge not only promotes physical health and community involvement but also exemplifies our commitment to both health and philanthropy, creating a dual impact on participants and beneficiaries alike. For more details, visit the Continental Divide Challenge page.

Outcomes:

  • Raised funds for multiple nonprofit organizations.
  • Increased awareness of the challenges faced by nonprofits.
  • Fostered a sense of community and shared purpose among participants.

Explorer Series also hosts a variety of exciting self-led urban and forest trail-based events designed to promote community engagement and support charitable causes. Three standout events include the Ten Trail Coffee Challenge, the Dogs and Trails Challenge, and the Ten Grind Challenge. In these events, participants embark on virtual adventures that blend physical activity with community exploration. Partial proceeds from all these events support a local nonprofit, the Chilliwack Parks and Trails Society, helping to maintain and enhance local trails.

  • Ten Trail Coffee Challenge: Participants explore ten different trails and visit local coffee shops along the way, promoting both outdoor activity and support for local businesses.
  • Dogs and Trails Challenge: This event encourages participants to take their furry friends on scenic trail walks, combining pet-friendly activities with community engagement.
  • Ten Grind Challenge: Participants tackle ten challenging trails, promoting fitness and perseverance while enjoying nature.

These events have raised thousands of dollars for organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross, SPCA, and the Chilliwack Parks and Trails Society. Additionally, the Series has partnered with business sponsors including Star 98FM, Orange Theory Fitness, Bosley’s by Pet Valu, Running Room, Garrison Running Co., Kintec, and dozens of coffee shops across southwestern B.C.

These trails-based, self-led, virtual distance challenges exemplify how Explorer Series can implement similar events in any community with sufficient trails and a large enough population. For example, Chilliwack, BC, with a population of 83,000 and an abundance of urban and forest trails, makes it an ideal location. If your community or organization wants to bring a similar challenge to your area, we invite you to reach out to us to discuss creating a customized challenge that promotes local engagement and supports charitable causes.
